My name is Rachel.
I feel like that is the first thing I should say, since I’m introducing myself and all.
But people are so much more than a name. We are more than the collection of letters and sounds used to identify us. So, who am I? Why do I write? Should you even spend your time getting to know me and my innermost thoughts?
I guess that’s for you to decide.
- My name, as I mentioned, is Rachel.
- I love the color teal. It was my wedding color.
- My husband is my biggest supporter. He encourages me to dream, to hope, and to make things happen. He’s why I haven’t given up on writing, or myself.
- I have two fur babies (or ya know, dogs), Oswald “Ozzy” and Isabelle “Izzy.” Oswald is the sweet, well-behaved older brother. Isabelle is the smart, evil diva. But, they are both by my side. Constantly. Even as I’m writing this.
- I am a teacher. I love what I do and I do what I love. I find true joy in teaching our future generations.
- I have an obsession with cacti. They genuinely make me happy. I even have one tattooed on me (sorry, Mom).
- I am an advocate for mental health awareness. I have been diagnosed with a panic disorder and depression. Mental illness is real illness, folks.
- I am an advocate for ALS awareness. I lost my dad to it when I was 15. It’s an awful disease that I hope you never have to encounter.
- I became a poet in fifth grade, when I wrote my first poem. I have been obsessed with writing ever since.
So, with that, I leave you to it. Peruse my page, read some poetry, and get to know a piece of me.
